Miss Allyn
Rose one of the contestants of Miss America 2013 is in news these days for her courageous
decision. She surprised everyone with her decision to go for voluntary double
mastectomy (removable of both breast) after Miss America contest. Currently,
she is Miss District of Columbia and she is only 24-year-old. She is also my
friend and I salute her for her brave and courageous decision.
She took
this decision due to a genetic disorder running in her family. Her mother was
diagnosed left breast cancer at the age of 27 and underwent for mastectomy at
28. She died at 51 when discovered again right breast cancer in its third stage.
Allyn mother’s
doctor said that it is not certain that she will suffer from it but there is
50-50 chances whenever other doctors that her mother was diagnosed cancer at 27
just 3 year from her age 24. So Allyn Rose has decided to take precaution and
she will undergo double mastectomy after Miss America contest.
She said emphatically
“Her breast do not define her, nor take away her womanhood. Even though it is a
woman’s breast that adds to her beauty, it’s the beauty of her heart, mind and
spirit that define her character”. Rose has seen her mother’s pain and she remembers
her mother was not able to participate in many of her important moments because
she was ill but she (Rose) want to be with her child on very moment.
