Sri Lanka won the opening match of 2TC world cup 2012 started on 18th September. Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe by 82 runs. Ajanta Mendis played a key role in destruction of Zimbabwe’s inning. He gave best performance of his career and took six wickets.
In very first match of this tournament, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Beginning was Sri Lankan inning was slow, but later Sangakara (44 runs) and Jeevan Mendis accelerated the score and made 75 runs in last 6 overes. Therefore, Sri Lanka was able to give target of huge 182 runs to Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe was under pressure from beginning and lost wickets on regular interval. Finally all team got out at 100 runs in 17.3 overs and the lost the game by 82 runs
