Men In Black Saturday: Collection & Report

Men In Black 3 has got a fantastic opening at domestic box office and grossed $1.6 million in Thursday midnight. It is an important film for the marquee franchise and Smith’s star status. Once again Will Smith is in lead role and Barry Sonnenfeld has directed it.

After a decade, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have reunited on screen in Men In Black III in 3D to demolish aliens again, deliver laughs, and scare the Avengers off the top of the box office.

It is expected that the movie will collect $85-90 million in the four-day holiday weekend and if compared to the Avengers which was estimated $46 million, slipping about 17% according to Box Office.com.

The sci-fi comedy is also poised to perform the same internationally and easily take the box-office crown away from The Avengers which is now in its fourth weekend.

It is already said in Hollywood that MIB3 won’t reach the levels of last year’s The Hangover Part II, Which opened nationalwide on the Thursday and earned $ 230 million of the four days.

MIB 3 opened well in India and it collected around 3.25 crores (NRI 32.5 million) net on its first day. The opening in India is less than 2012, Mission Impossible 4, The Avengers, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 as well as Avatar but it is in the same range as the other big openers like Pirates of The Caribbean – Strangers of the Tide and Transformers – Dark of the Moon.

It is fortune of this film that there is no any major Hindi release and it has helped the film. It is expected that the film will do a 10 crores nett plus weekend.

Men In Black 3 is likely to finish just outside the top five Hollywood opening weekends in India and be in sixth or seventh place

MIB 3 is also released overseas and it is expected that it will clear $ 200 million worldwide in its debut. The production cost of film is $ 230 million.
