Once again Aamir Khan lifted another untouched and sensitive issue of our society. In the sixth episode of Satyamev Jayate, he lifted the issue of physical disable or physical challenged people. Their position in the society and behave of people with them. I was shocked to hear the behavior of people with such people.
It is surprising, before 2002, physically challenged people was not counted in the census. They were kept away from census. They were not part of population. When one physically challenged profession form Delhi University fought against it then the census of these people began to count after 2002.
Physically challenged kids are not getting admission in a normal school where everybody is study. There is special school for them. Why this difference? When the authority of school was asked on this topic, they said that guardian of normal child do not want to send their child in such school where physical disabled child is studying. When school authority wanted to make them understand and behave equally all human beings; the answer of guardian is disappointing. They said that they will take out their ward from school if disable child will study in same school.
The behavior of people is not good with disable people. It is clear that nobody is responsible for their disability. If someone is blind, deaf, mute or lamb by birth, what is their fault? Whenever they are doing their all work themselves. Why people looked at them with hate or despise. One Little girl had come in the show with her parent. She is suffering from a queer disease. Her skin is not growing in ratio of rest part of body; in short growth rate of her skin is slow then other organs. So her skin is stretched and she looks ugly. Her parent said that she is not their own child. They have adopted her from an orphanage. When she was very small, her original parents had left her in an orphanage.
When they visited orphanage for a kid; they looked at her and their heart said that they came there for her, they adopted her. Now she is studying in standard IX and doing all work. Once, her parent and she went to a mall. In mall; one woman spite at her face. When her mother asked her the reason of throwing spit on her face. She said, “Why do you bring such ugly girl in the public place, keep her in home”. Her mother got annoyed with that woman. She brought her in car and wiped her face and said sorry for that woman’s behaviors. She said to her mother, “Why are you saying sorry, it is not your fault, it was that woman’s fault and she should apologized”. This was view of that girl. What is her mistake? What was mentality of that woman? Is it humanitarian act? Who is disable, this girl or that woman? Definitely that woman.
There are a long list of such loathing act and behavior of people. There is need of change the view about disable people; they are also a human being; they should behave equally and provide them equal opportunity. One surprising fact is that there is only 18% tax on makeup material used in film studio but there is 40% tax on wheel chair and other products for disable people like brace, anklet, crèches, AFO etc. Is this justifiable? Should government not make a policy and reduced the rate of these articles. Disable person has made many records and they did such kind of job which a normal human being is not dare to do.
Aamir Khan threw light on this issue and drew the attention of whole nation. He had invited all related people in this show. Story of one girl is mentioned above. He tried to reduce the inequality and appealed nation to change their opinion about disabled people and take a new starts.
