“Airlift”
was release on 22nd January, 2016 over 2400 screens across the country and few
hundred in overseas. It is first film of superstar Akshay Kumar in new years
and with Nirmit Kaur too. Film had already made fantastic pre release buzz
therefore it took expected opening 12.35 crores nett. on very first day. The film received fantastic reviews and very
positive word of mouth therefore it took big jump on Saturday and another big Sunday
and finished first weekend around 44.30 which was fantastic amount from 2400
screens.
The film did
very good business on week days and took another huge jump on Republic day and
accumulated 17.35 crores equal to Sunday, further it continues it magic on box
office rest of the day and finished first week 83.50 crores nett and leaving
Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 very behind which was released together.
In second
week, two new films Mastizade and Salakhrush came but could not affect its business,
Airlift did fantastic business on second weekend and crossed 100 crores marks
on Sunday. Further it continues it magic on weekdays and finish second week
around 28.29 crores. Now it enters third week with some more releases "Ghayal Once Again" and Sanam Teri Kasam" that have
reduced it screen. Though it shrunk over very less screen but business is still
continue and it first chose of audience.
The film
collected 2.03 crores on third Friday and 2.20 crores
on Saturday. Film will take good jump on Sunday and finish weekend around 6-8
crores. Now, Sunny Deol’s “Ghayal Once Again” has taken big number of screen
and also taken decent opening so Airlift will finish its lifetime around 120
crores. It is nice opening for Akshay in 2016 and the trend developed by this
film shows that his next release Housefull 3, sequel of Housefull and Housefull 2, will do a great job on the box
office. if we talk about overseas business it is also very nice, so far it has grabbed 71.50 crores and brought total worldwide collection 188 crores nett. Film will cross 200 cores mark worldwidely.
